MTC 2001 Competitors

Stephen, Tim, Ben and Jayson competed in the 2001 MTC competition in Seoul, Korea. The team won gold.

1. What was your motivation in participating in the MTC competition?

To challenge myself to design and build new concepts.

2. What was the biggest thing you learned from MTC?
To trust your own and others' ideas.

3. Would you recommend the MTC and WorldSkills competitions to others? What would you tell them about it?
Definitely. It was a great experience that changes your perspective on things. It pushes you to new levels of thought and work.

4. What experiences have you had since the competition?
Many and varied experiences working in design and product development.

5. What are you doing in your job at the moment?
Have changed jobs. I am now working for Venture Industries Australia, establishing a new plant and managing a tool and maintenance department.

6. Do you have any advice for this year’s competitors?

Stay calm. Use the knowledge of the people around you and have faith in yourself and your team members.

7. Is there anything else you want to say about the competition?

We used the 'KIS' theory - Keep It Simple. My motto is "there is no such thing as a problem, just an opportunity for a solution".

8. What did MTC really mean for you?
The opportunity to display our skills and work ability to the world.

9. How would you describe MTC in one or two words?
Life-changing.
